NORTH AMERICAN CUP

OVER TWO DECADES OF OUTDOOR HOCKEY

It started with a simple question: What if we brought hockey back to where it belongs?

Not in an arena. Not under fluorescent lights. Not surrounded by boards and glass.

But outdoors. On a frozen lake. The way the game was played before it moved inside.

Where Hockey Belongs. Outdoors. On the Frozen Lake. Over two decades of outdoor hockey. One unforgettable tradition.

In 2007, On The Pond Canada set out to do something different—building our first outdoor rink on Lake Muskoka and hosting the inaugural North American Cup.

At the time, there were no guarantees. We didn’t know if teams would travel. We didn’t know if they would embrace the unpredictability of outdoor hockey. We didn’t know if the concept would succeed. But they came. They embraced the elements. They embraced the experience. And most importantly—they came back.

What began as a single event quickly evolved into a lasting tradition. Teams returned year after year. First-time participants became annual competitors. Players introduced the experience to their families, and over time, a new generation took to the ice—continuing the legacy.

Along the way, championships have been earned, rivalries have taken shape, and enduring friendships have been built—many of them extending well beyond the rink.

In our first year, we welcomed 18 teams across six rinks. Today, the North American Cup has grown to feature 20 rinks and over 100 teams, making it one of the premier outdoor hockey tournaments in North America.

For nearly two decades, teams have chosen to spend their February weekends on a frozen lake in Muskoka—not just for competition, but for something far more meaningful. Because once you experience outdoor hockey in its purest form, you understand. This is why we play.

Will your team be part of the story?

YOUTH TOURNAMENTS

We've been hosting exciting youth hockey tournaments in the Peterborough area for several years. Our PA Day & Holiday Tournaments are one-day events where individual players sign up instead of full teams. Players submit their age, skill level, and position, and we create evenly matched, co-ed teams for a day of fun and competitive hockey! Skill levels are mixed on each team, so players meet new teammates, and by the end of the day, they’ve made new friends while sharpening their hockey skills.

YOUTH HOCKEY TRAVEL EXPERIENCES

This isn’t just a hockey tournament — it’s an experience, an adventure, and a memory-making opportunity that our hockey players and families will carry for a lifetime.

On The Pond! Canada is proud to be traveling with THREE teams to Finland and Sweden August 2026.

All teams have been carefully built with players who we believe will not only compete at a high level together but will also truly enjoy the experience of traveling, learning, and growing through this trip.

We are counting down the days until we land in Finland, and can't wait to announce our next big trip!
